Sam’s Club site neighbors eager to welcome new Ogden Hill store

As preparations for a Montgomery Sam’s Club get under way, managers at neighboring businesses are expressing their excitement about the warehouse retailer’s plans for moving into the Village.

One organization whose leadership hopes it will benefit from the new neighbor is the Montgomery Campus of the Oswego Public Library District.

“We are just thrilled at this development,” said Maureen Fisher, the business manager of the library. “Anything to get more people to the area will be a good thing.”
The library, 1111 Reading Drive, is a nearby neighbor of the Ogden Hill retail center where Sam’s Club will be built.

Jamie Ludovic and Jerad Chipman of the Village of Montgomery Community Development department visited businesses near the Sam’s Club development site in early March to answer questions from managers and show them prospective plans.

“We are excited,” Manager Jeremy Pope of Buona Beef, 1230 Ogden Avenue, told Ludovic and Chipman. “There is going to be a bigger pull to this area now.”

Buona sits next to Sonic and Walgreens in the shopping center. These stores are joined by a JC Penney, Menards, National Tire and Battery, Office Depot, Earthmover Credit Union and Goodwill.

“This will be a great addition to the area,” said George Antolik, Goodwill General Manager. “[Sam’s Club] moving in will definitely benefit this shopping center.”

The Village approved the Sam’s Club site plans in February and has entered into a sales tax agreement with Sam’s West, Inc. Construction on the project is projected to start this fall, and it is estimated that the development will create around 170 jobs in Montgomery.

“I’m excited not only for the traffic it will bring, but for the shopping too,” said Sarah Skilton, library director. “I will be getting my Sam’s Club card as soon as they open!”
