At 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12th, the Village of Montgomery will host a free Illinois Bicentennia

At 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12th, the Village of Montgomery will host a free Illinois Bicentennial musical program at the Village Hall, 200 N. River Street.  Phil Passen, a popular performer in Northern Illinois, will play the hammered dulcimer as he presents “From Prairie to Farm to City:  Music to Commemorate Illinois’ Bicentennial.” Phil’s show will feature 200 years of songs that have been sung and played in Illinois and will provide commentary about the histories of the selections.  He is one of the few performers who sings while accompanying himself on the hammered dulcimer, whose name means “beautiful song.”

The event is free and handicapped accessible, and is suitable for all ages.  This program was made possible through a grant by the Illinois Humanities, which is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Illinois General Assembly, as well as by contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations.

The monthly Senior Lunch and activity for ages 55 will begin at 11:00 a.m. after the program.  There is a $4 cost for the lunch and pre-registration by June 5th is required.

For additional information on this event, please call the Montgomery Village Hall at (630) 896-8080 ext. 9023.
