Operation
We Care
The
Montgomery Police Department, established the "Operation
We Care" program in January 1988. This program provides
an extra net of security for senior citizens or citizens with
disabilities residing in Montgomery.
Residents
are registered into "Operation We Care" after completing
a form with the Police Department. The form includes medical
concerns, "key holder information" (i.e., friends,
relatives or neighbors with keys to the residence), and date
of birth.
Members
are placed on a list and called by the Police Department at
a pre-arranged time. If the member doesn't answer the telephone,
a "key holder" will be contacted to check on the Member.
The "key holder" will respond, usually with a Police
Officer, and provide any assistance needed.
"Operation
We Care" has made numerous "saves" since 1988.
A recent save occurred when a Member fell in the middle of the
night and couldn't get to the telephone. Her knowledge that
the Police Department would be calling her in the morning helped
her get through the night.
The
following morning, after attempts to make contact with the Member
by telephone were unsuccessful, a Police Officer along with
a "key holder" responded to the residence and found
the Member on the bedroom floor. The Member was transported
by Fire Department ambulance to a local hospital for medical
attention.
Seven
senior citizens currently participate in Operation We Care.
We encourage residents to consider participating in this program.
Village residents who wish more information on "Operation
We Care", should contact the Police Department at (630)
