[ARCHIVED] Montgomery to Offer Flood Debris Pickup

The Village of Montgomery, along with Republic Services, will offer additional waste collection services to assist residents with the disposal of flood damaged debris caused by the recent storms. Residents will have two opportunities to have the material collected: once on your regular waste collection day (Monday, April 22 through Thursday, April 25, 2013), plus a second collection on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

This collection is intended to remove flood damage debris, so other items (listed below) will not be collected. Thank you for observing the size and weight limits on containers and bundles, which are in place for the safety of the refuse workers who will lift and haul this material into the disposal trucks.

• All material must be at the curb by 6:00 am on your regular collection day (Monday – Thursday), or by 6:00 a.m. on Saturday for the April 27 collection.
• Material must be contained or bundled with a maximum weight of 50 lbs. per container or bundle, with the exception of bulk items, such as couches or furniture. Containers include trash bags and cans.
• Carpet and carpet padding must be in rolls no longer than 4 feet in length, no more than 2 feet in diameter, with a maximum weight of 50 lbs. per roll.
• Drywall (construction material) must be placed in containers, or bundled and tied with rope, with a maximum weight of 50 lbs. per container or bundle. All bundles must be no longer than 4 feet in length. For the safety of refuse workers, all nails must be removed or bent over.
• No loose construction material will be accepted during the special collection. All material must be placed in a container, or bundled and tied, and not exceed 50 lbs. per container or bundle.

Items NOT accepted:
• Concrete, bricks, broken glass and stone not in containers.
• Fences not in containers.
• Utility sinks or tubs.
• Household hazardous waste.
• Electronics.
• Liquids.
• Yard waste.

Don’t forget – the Village has also scheduled our ”Spring Clean Up” days for the week of May 13, 2013 so you will have another opportunity in a few weeks to dispose of additional items at no charge.

Please contact the Montgomery Public Works Department at 630-896-9241 with any questions you may have.
