The Montgomery Police Department would like to thank all staff members and volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to assist with the first annual “Halloween Safety Event.” The event was free to the public and was a tremendous success. This event would not have been possible without the generous donations from the following local businesses:

PERFORMANCE FOODSERVICE – 5030 Baseline Road, Montgomery
WAL-MART – 2000 Orchard Road, Montgomery
UNITED FACILITIES – 1390 Orchard Road, Montgomery
EBY BROWN – 2051 Baseline Road, Montgomery
WALGREENS – 1799 Douglas Road, Montgomery
SAM’S CLUB – 1050 Ogden Avenue, Montgomery
BLAIN’S FARM & FLEET – 400 U.S. 30, Montgomery
MONTGOMERY MARKETPLACE – 1525 Douglas Road, Montgomery
STARBUCK’S – 2080 Orchard Road, Montgomery

Residents and children enjoyed treats, games, and refreshments at the two hour long event. Balloon artist Sonia’s Simple Twist was also a huge hit with the kids. However, the most important part of the safety event was the message delivered to the children who attended. All children received a “Halloween Contract” from the Police Department which listed the following five safety tips on it.

1. I will trick or treat with my parents or a trusted adult or guardian.
2. I will walk safely with my parents, guardians, or friends on sidewalks and look both ways when crossing a street or intersection.
3. I will never go alone into a stranger’s house or walk up to any strange vehicles, occupied or not.
4. I will have my parents check all candy before eating it.
5. I will call 911 in emergencies.

Each safety tip was read and explained by a different police officer. Each officer and child then initialed the contract. We look forward to a successful event next year and remind all residents to be safe during Halloween and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
