Each year the Village of Montgomery seeks competitive bids for electrical power on behalf of its residents and small businesses. Since the beginning of this program in 2012, it has saved nearly $250 per participating account for a cumulative $1.15 million in savings Village-wide.
This summer the bids received were all higher than the ComEd rate of 7.75¢ per kilowatt hour. Therefore, those who participate in the Village’s electrical aggregation program will be automatically switched to ComEd effective with their meter read date in October 2018, and will receive a “Confirmation of Drop” notice from ComEd in September, informing them of the upcoming switch. Next summer the Village will seek bids again and will provide another update at that time.
It is likely that residents will receive solicitations from alternate electric suppliers from time to time. When considering any solicitation, residents are advised to avoid variable rates that may have no upward cap, termination fees, and any added monthly or miscellaneous fees.
Never provide your electrical account number to a solicitor unless you have contacted them directly to enroll and you have reviewed all terms and conditions. Avoid supposed deadlines associated with signing up for a program. Be cautious if solicitors ask to see your current electric bill and black out your account number before showing it to them.
No solicitor is associated with the Village of Montgomery and they are not soliciting at the request of the Village. If a solicitor claims otherwise, take their information and report to the ICC at http://www.icc.illinois.gov/consumer/complaint.
