[ARCHIVED] Montgomery Residents: Spring Cleaning Opportunities this May

Montgomery Residents: Spring Cleaning Opportunities this May

Montgomery, IL - With spring weather finally beginning to break in the area, the Village of Montgomery reminds residents of two free opportunities for spring cleaning.

In the first week of May, the Village Public Works crews will offer free bulk brush pick up and the free yard waste removal provided by the Village's refuse hauler, LRC Recycling, provided brown yard bags are used and set out on garbage day. The bi-annual Bulk Brush Pick-Up program allows residents to pile brush (not bundled) along the parkway for removal. Residents must neatly stack branches or bush trimmings (not to exceed 4" in diameter)  in one direction, and piles should not exceed three feet. Bundles must be in place by Sunday evening (May 1) before pickup begins, as crews will make only one pass through the Village beginning Monday, May 2 at 7A. Those interested can find more information on the Village's website,, keyword search "bulk brush."

On Saturday, May 21, the Village will host a free paper shredding event for residents at the Montgomery Police Department (10 Civic Center Ave.) from 9A-12P. The Village contracts Beaver Shredding, who will provide a mobile shredding truck on site for those needing to dispose of confidential paperwork, old files, etc. Paper will be shredded onsite in a locked container for additional security and improved disposal measures. No registration for the shredding event is required. The Village offers paper shredding twice annually, and the fall event will be on September 24.
